Summary

The new economy is not about information, it's about communication, and most of that communication is about business. Newspapers, television, books, information services, and now the internet surround us with business news and information. Yet all this effort is wasted if the information that is put out interests no-one and is read nowhere.

Word On Business Summary

Word On Business: it's an information economy. be a smart informer by Jenny. Luesby

In the twenty-first century, the difference between rich and poor, success and failure, is knowledge. The new economy is not about information, it s about communication, and most of that communication is about business. Newspapers, television, books, information services, and now the internet surround us with business news and information. Yet all this effort is wasted if the information that is put out interests no-one and is read nowhere. The key to effective communication is making sure that your audiences are the winners. The Word on Business spells out what people want from business information, and how to hook their attention. Working with press releases, news and analysis, it shows how serving consumers works for individual companies and news services, too. It shows how to put together information that makes economies ride more smoothly, allows readers to flourish on change and assists businesses in creating more wealth. What she reveals is a must-read for anyone who wants or needs to understand the way in which flows of financial information influence all our lives. Jonathan Prynn, City Correspondent, London Evening Standard The new literacy is financial literacy and The Word On Business is its bible. It shows us why business writing matters and how to do it. Practical, witty, relevant and jargon free. Lucy Kellaway, Journalist, Financial Times The role of the business journalist is becoming more important as the appetite for information grows. This book will give practitioners much more food for thought.Roland Gribben, Business Editor, The Daily Telegraph, 1967-1999 Essential reading for all would be financial journalists and for those who have to deal with them. David Brewerton, Partner, Brunswick Group Limited 'Business News' as Jenny Luesby puts it is extremely powerful: too powerful to be left in the hands of those who don't understand it. This book is an invaluable guide to the complex world of business reporting. Hugh Lewin, Director, Institute for the Advancement of Journalists, Johannesburg I am thrilled to bits by it. This is the kind of book I have been look for, for ages. It does what it asks journalists to do: explain things in simple, easily accessible language, thus proving the very point it is trying to make. Peter Prufert, Director, International Institute for Journalism, Germany
