Summary

The man who Michael Connelly says invented the modern police novel delivers another dose of black humour and imaginative richness set in the surreal precinct of Hollywood Station.

Hollywood Moon Summary

Hollywood Moon by Joseph Wambaugh

Hollywood certainly isn't your typical police precinct, but these days it seems even weirder than usual, from drag queens in delicto flagrante behind dumpsters to men in massage parlours receiving unspeakable injuries from Barbie dolls. The cops have peculiarities of their own: Hollywood Nate still dreams of movie stardom, but worries that he's too good-looking to be a character actor. Then there's Dana Vaughn, a tough no-nonsense cop who can't stand the fact that former chauvinist pig Lee Murillo has become her new guardian angel after she saved his life. But there's a darker side to all that weirdness - and when the enigmatic crook Dewey Gleason hatches an audacious kidnap plan, without knowing that one of the hired help lives a double life as a serial sex attacker, things start to get very dangerous indeed.

Hollywood Moon Reviews

... it is a huge pleasure to make the reacquaintance of such cops as Hollywood Nate... The plot features romance, tragedy, but above all comedy as an avalanche celebrates 'Dizzyland' in all its weirdness' Evening Standard.
