The Key to Rebecca Summary

The Key to Rebecca by Ken Follett

He is known to the Germans as 'Sphinx', to others as Alex Wolff, a European businessman. He arrives suddenly in Cairo from out of the desert, armed with a radio set, a lethal blade and a copy of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca -- a ruthless man with a burning conviction that he will win at all costs. The stakes are high, for the survival of the British campaign in North Africa is in the balance. Only Major William Vandam, an Intelligence officer, and a beautiful courtesan Elene can put an end to Wolff's brilliant clandestine reports of British troop movements and strategic plans ...As Rommel's troops come nearer to victory, Vandam pursues Wolff across the merciless desert to a terrifying life or death confrontation between the two adversaries.

About Ken Follett

Ken Follett was born in Cardiff, Wales. Barred from watching films and television by his parents, he developed an early interest in reading thanks to a local library. After studying philosophy at University College London, he became involved in centre-left politics, entering into journalism soon after. His first thriller, the wartime spy drama Eye of the Needle, became an international bestseller and has sold over 10 million copies. He then astonished everyone with his first historical novel, The Pillars of the Earth, the story of the building of a medieval cathedral, which went on to become one of the most beloved books of the twentieth century. Now he springs another surprise with Never. One of the most popular authors in the world, his many books, including the Kingsbridge series and the Century trilogy, have sold more than 178 million copies. A father and husband, Ken lives with his wife in England and enjoys travelling the world when he can. Tim Pigott-Smith is highly respected for his work on stage and screen and is particularly well known for his role in the television series, The Jewel of the Crown. He had worked extensively in theatre for the Bristol Old Vic, the RSC and on Broadway in The Iceman Cometh. His film credits include Remains of the Day, Chain Reaction , Bloody Sunday, Alexander, Escape to Victory and Dead Man's Folly. His many television credits include North and South and The Vice.
