National Dance Summary

National Dance by Margaret Allenby-Jaffe

'Whosoever danceth not, knoweth not the way of life.' At the time that this line from a second-century Gnostic hymn was written, dancing was still 'of the people, for the people, by the people', a medium in which man took his first faltering steps towards prayer and religion. It is at this dance of the common people - folk dance - that this book takes a long look.

About Margaret Allenby-Jaffe

Margaret Allenby-Jaffe's life-long involvement in dance - as dancer, teacher, examiner and adjudicator - has encompassed many aspects of the art. But it is national dance that is her greatest love, and she has spent the last thirty years researching and collecting folk dances from all parts of Europe. In writing this book, her aim is to inspire more people to join hands together in dance, thereby taking a step towards interntional peace and friendship.
