B-26 Marauder at War Summary

B-26 Marauder at War by Roger A. Freeman

The Martin Marauder was the most advanced medium bomber in the world when it entered service in 1940 but early mishaps and the skilled handling it required earned it nicknames like the widow maker and the Martin murderer. It overcame these drawbacks to become a legend in Allied bombing in Europe with many celebrated stories becoming associated with it - such as the B-26 which flew 202 missions and was holed in over 900 places. There were more than 1000 Marauders in Europe by the end of 1944, making it the most numerous of the Allied medium bombers.
