Story of the Scene Summary

Story of the Scene: The Inside Scoop on Famous Moments in Film by Roger Clarke

"A vital weapon in the battle against the rising tide of disinformation and a cracking good read" Jonathan Ross Story of the Scene gives the inside scoop on 80 famous moments in film, from legends to exclusives, from the hilarious to the downright sinister. Written by leading film critic, Roger Clarke, each story takes a famous movie moment - such as the Singin' in the Rain dance sequence, the Alien eruption scene or the 'You talkin' to me?' Taxi Driver sequence - and tells the unique circumstances of its creation: how the shot was made or the bizarre and often dangerous lengths a director or actor will go to, to get the perfect take. What were the exact details of Brandon Lee's actual death on camera during the filming of The Crow? Were the cast and crew of The Exorcist really cursed? Did Arnold Schwarzenegger improvise his famous 'I'll be back' line in The Terminator? And just why did actor Michael Madsen drive around LA with his fellow actor in the trunk of his car prior to filming the Stuck in the Middle with You sequence for Reservoir Dogs? Story of the Scene opens up the true stories behind the myths and legends and reveals many more besides.

Story of the Scene Reviews

'If many purchasers of this enjoyable collection will put it in the smallest room, they may find Clarke's page on Raiders of the Lost Ask apposite. The celebrated scene of Harrison Ford shooting a scimitar-swirling assassin was made particularly zippy because the star had an urgent need to use the lavatory...' Independent (October 2009) 'Tells some great yarns about how some of the most memorable film scenes came about.' Irish Independent (October 2009) 'Story of the Scene opens up the true stories behind the myths and legends, and reveals much more besides.' Sight and Sound (December 2009) 'The concept here is one that will have film buffs in seventh heaven...Clarke's obvious enthusiasm for his subject communicates itself on every page.' Good Book Guide (November 2009) 'Pick this book up to check a fact (or discredit a factoid) and you're liable to be drawn to the next item, and the next...It's dangerously addictive.' Sight & Sound (March 2010)
