The Beginnings of School Readiness Summary

The Beginnings of School Readiness: Foundations of the Infant and Toddler Classroom by Sarah Vanover

Many families and educators are concerned with the school readiness skills that children acquire in preschool; however, they do not realize that these skills begin to develop during the infant and toddler years. Infant and toddler caregivers need to recognize the importance of a high-quality infant and toddler learning environment and learn how they can support children while they acquire essential skills for future success.

The Beginnings of School Readiness Reviews

School readiness is an unfamiliar term to many infant and toddler caregivers. Dr. Vanover's book, The Beginning of School Readiness, helps explain what actual readiness is for a young child and the stages of learning. Specifically, her discussion on development demonstrates the important role of play in a child's overall education. -- Holly Lafavers, Early Childhood Specialist, Kentucky Department of Education
