A reissue of a book, first published in 1985, giving insight into the workings of central government. Sir John Colville, the author, was private secretary to three prime ministers (Chamberlain, Attlee and Churchill), and for two years was private secretary to Princess Elizabeth following her marriage to the Duke of Edinburgh. His previous books include "Footprints in Time" and "The Churchillians".
