The U.S.S. Enterprisesuffers extensive damage to the point that it cannot travel at warp speed. As a result, Captain James T. Kirk accepts the offer of aid from the captain of another ship from an unexplored sector of space. What Kirk doesn't realize is that this new sector is embroiled in a protracted civil war, and the Enterpriseis now an unwilling weapon to be used in the conflict.
