Son of a lighterman, Gordon Beningfield grew up in London and is one of the last surviving artisans of a generation who served apprenticeships as ecclesiastical artists. Since the early 1960s, he has built a reputation as a landscape and natural history painter, and his work has reached wide audiences through his appearances on television and radio. This book is at once an autobiography and a celebration of Gordon Beningfield's art which, in addition to his well-known paintings, includes stained glass memorial windows for the Brigade of Guards in the Guards Chapel in London, sculpture and two sets of stamps for the British Post Office.
