PHILIP FREEMAN holds a doctorate from Harvard University and is currently the chair of classical languages at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The recipient of numerous teaching awards and honors, he has been a visiting scholar at the American Academy in Rome, the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, D.C., and the Harvard Divinity School.
