An incredible diary written by a nurse working on the Western Front during the First World War.
EDITH ELIZABETH APPLETON was born in Kent in June 1877 and trained as a nurse at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, qualifying in 1904. In 1914 she volunteered for the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Nursing Service and spent the next five years attached to hospitals and casualty clearing stations in France and Flanders, until her demobilisation on 22 December, 1919.
