The Pole-seekers Summary

The Pole-seekers by Meredith Hooper

Published to coincide with the centenary of British National Antarctic Expedition's departure from London, here is an exciting, engrossing recreation of that story - told from the point of view of the ships' rats on board.

On arrival in Antarctica, a new quest beckons: a journey further south than any made before - towards the treacherous South Pole. For a small party of intrepid explorer rats, it's an irresistible challege - but one that may cost them their lives. Full of fascinating insight into the minds of commanders and followers alike, and breathtaking descriptions of Antarctica, this is a truly original and memorable novel.

The Pole-seekers Reviews

WHAT THE CRITICS SAID OF THE JOURNAL OF WATKIN STENCH: 'Emphatically written . . . We experience the raw hardships and extreme difficulties affecting the horrifyingly interwoven lives of rats and men. A good read.' - Books for Keeps

This clever spoof history certainly deserves to be included among the host of celebratory books on early Australian history. - Growing Point

In his pert, lively, observant and sometimes lyrical style, Watkin records the bleakness and strangeness that faced the pioneer newcomers. - Naomi Lewis in TES
