John Tullock (Powell, TN) has produced thirteen how-to books and used his photographs to illustrate several of them. Natural Reef Aquariums, his hugely popular book, is currently in its fifth printing. Tullock grew raised on a farm with his family. Throughout the 1980s, he had a retail store and organically farmed five acres.
He began selling plants from his suburban garden after returning to the city in the late 1990s, eventually running a mail-order rare-plant nursery until 2003. He now works from his home and garden outside Knoxville, Tennessee, as a full-time author and consultant.
