Virginia Savage McAlester has been a lifetime supporter of historical preservation and a professional architect. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, where she attended Radcliffe College and completed the Harvard Graduate School of Design's first-year curriculum. She is a founder member of Preservation Dallas and its past president, as well as an emeritus advisor for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Her books include The Creation of a Historic District: Swiss Avenue, Dallas, Texas, and The Houses of the Park Cities, Dallas: Great American Suburbs. She is an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) state and local branches and lives in Dallas, Texas.
