Freemasonry for Beginners by Robert Lomas
Many people have heard of Freemasonry, but few have any idea what it is, what it does, or why it exists. Freemasonry is not a religion, but rather a spiritual self-help society whose declared purpose is to help members become better citizens, and it has a strong track record of doing just that since it began in Scotland in the 15th century.
Freemasonry For Beginners explores the objectives and teaching methods of Freemasonry and describes its influence on society in the past, present, and future. It recounts the origins of the movement in Scotland and its spread to North America and the rest of the world. Not least of all, it shows how Masonic teachings have helped so many members over the centuries learn the skills to become leaders in society, science, and the arts.
Dr. Robert Lomas earned a B.Sc. in electronics with honors before going on to get a Ph.D. in solid-state physics with a focus on improving the theory and practice of crystalline semiconducting hetro-junction photo-optic devices. He moved on to work on the first microprocessor chips and missile guidance systems before focusing in software development for Fire, Ambulance, and Rescue Services command and control systems. He later gained expertise in data mining and data capture techniques, which he applied to help emergency services control rooms improve their response times. He taught data-based command and control as a visiting lecturer at the Fire Service Staff College for a time. He became a Freemason in 1986 and immediately became a well-known lecturer on Masonic history before co-authoring the international best-sellers The Hiram Key, The Second Messiah, Uriel's Machine, and The Book of Hiram.
He's been writing on his own since 2000, and his books include Turning the Hiram Key, Freemasonry and the Origins of Modern Science, and The Man Who Created the Twentieth Century, among others. He also publishes academic texts like Mastering Your Business Dissertation and Masonic publications like The Hidden Science of Masonic Initiation. He is currently a Visiting Fellow in Information Systems at Bradford University School of Management in Yorkshire, United Kingdom. His most recent work is Freemasonry for Beginners.
