Matt Hill was born in Tameside, Greater Manchester, in 1984 and grew up there. He became a copywriter after graduating from Cardiff University with a journalism degree. He is now based in London and works there. His debut novel, The Folded Man, came in second place in the Dundee International Book Award in 2012.
