Hacktivists Anonymous by Scott Tilley
Some of today's computer hackers are driven by money, but some of them do it as part of a social activist agenda. They are known as hacktivists, and one of the largest hacktivists organizations is called Anonymous. Their members wear masks to remind people of the original Guy Fawkes who tried to overthrow the British government 400 years ago. Anonymous recruits members from around the world - and they want you to join them. This is Volume 5 in the Technology Today series, a collection of Tilley's newspaper columns that appear each week in Florida Today (Gannett).Scott Tilley is the Director of Computer Education at the Florida Institute of Technology, where he is a Professor in the Department of Education and Interdisciplinary Studies. He is the Chair of the IEEE Web Systems Evolution (WSE) Steering Committee and a Former Chair of the ACM's SIGDOC (Special Interest Group on Design of Communication). He is a Distinguished Speaker for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Software engineering and computing education are two of his key interests, and his software engineering research focuses on software testing, cloud computing, and system migration. Computing literacy, instructional technology, and STEM outreach are all areas of Scott's work in computing education. He contributes a weekly piece to the Florida Today newspaper (Gannett) called Technology Today.
