Resources for Teaching Mathematics: 11-14 Colin Foster

This title contains 80 complete lesson plans with complementary worksheets specifically aligned to the Key Stage 3 curriculum, plus a companion website. Don't have time to find new ideas to teach ratio and proportion? Have some great new ICT equipment, but aren't quite sure how to make the most of it? New to teaching and struggling to keep to the curriculum and lesson time? This resource contains 80 ready-to-use maths lesson plans suitable for the whole department to use with 11-14-year-olds. Each plan consists of a teacher's sheet which breaks down the lesson into time-allocated sections, plus a photocopiable, or downloadable student worksheet that corresponds to the teacher's lesson plan. There is also a dynamic companion website with activities and software to support the lesson plans in the book, giving teachers the time and confidence to try new activities in the classroom with minimal preparation time. The lessons focus on problem solving and putting maths into context to engage students in deeper mathematical thought and there are plenty of online resources to help busy maths teachers find new ways of delivering the curriculum and make the most of their ICT equipment. It's hard enough for teachers to fit all their marking, extra-curricular duties and training into their lives, let alone finding time to think up exciting new ways of delivering their subject to a mixed-ability class. This new series offers complete, curriculum-friendly lesson plans for busy secondary school teachers of various disciplines. Each title includes an assortment of lesson plans designed to motivate and inspire students. Each plan consists of a teacher's sheet, providing: the aims and objectives of the lesson; a lesson starter, main phase, plenary and homework ideas, each with suggested timeframes; and, guidance on how to adapt the activities to make them harder or easier for gifted and talented, or less able pupils. Each plan also includes a photocopiable, or downloadable student task sheet which corresponds to the teacher's lesson plan, plus online resources including links to useful websites, material to display on the whiteboard and time-saving cheat sheets.

Resources for Teaching Mathematics: 11-14 Bewertungen

'The problems in this book would enrich the mathematical learning of any class; they are clear and challenging whilst being easily differentiable. Colin Foster has produced a resource that will extend the mathematical learning of any student, helping them to engage with mathematics, instead of just doing mathematics.' James Robinson, Teacher of Mathematics, Ripley St Thomas School, UK
'Colin Foster has once again provided a rich treasure-trove of lesson ideas that will undoubtedly serve to excite the imagination of all learners. Each lesson holds the potential to be explored for a week (if not more!). An exciting resource that I look forward to continuing to use with all of my classes.' Christopher Martin, Teacher of Mathematics, Haverstock School, UK
'Resources for Teaching Mathematics 11-14 is by far and away the most comprehensive collection of high quality mathematical activities that I have ever seen. The tasks cover such a wide range of different activities which are both accessible and interesting to reluctant mathematicians and will challenge and fascinate the most able. There are so many different ways of exploring each idea which are clearly explained in the very detailed plans that it makes it easy for every mathematics teacher to give their students a positive experience of exploring mathematics. Colin has written the book that every maths teacher should have.' Catherine Scarlett, Teacher of Mathematics, Driffield School, UK
This Book follows in the series of Resources for Teaching - the previous edition covering the ages of 14 to 16... It uses the same successful format as the previous book... covering a huge variety of areas. Each lesson is designed to make pupils think about mathematics in a stimulating and at times, unusual way. They can be tried individually or in groups and most pupils should be able to make a reasonable start on each task. Each task is flexible and the teacher can adapt or modify to suit a particular class.' N.G. Macleod, Mathematics in School, UK
