Meet Larry Wyler, a man with a big heart, broad shoulders and some very odd baggage. After the runaway success of his debut novel, Spacious Skies, Larry decides that small town St Paul is not enough for a man of his talents. Leaving Iris, his earnest Democrat wife, behind, he moves to Manhattan and his dream job at The New Yorker, but once there it soon becomes apparent that strange things are afoot in the fabled halls of the world's leading literary magazine. To make matters worse, his marriage is falling apart and, after his second novel, Amber Waves of Grain, dramatically flops, he's struck down with a bad case of writer's block. Cue his new incarnation as the newspaper columnist 'Mr Blue', agony uncle to the lonely and frustrated. It may not be great literature, but perhaps the simple act of writing once again will help get Larry back on track, and possibly even back into his marital bed.
