Last Train Zusammenfassung

Last Train Kim Lewis

When Sara and James discover the old railway workers' hut, they decide to turn it into a camp. All morning they work, stuffing the cracks with wool and grass, stamping the floor as flat as they can. Then they lean out of the window and it seems as though they can actually see the last train puffing past, where the tracks used to be, horn wailing and wheels clattering. The children return to the hut later, with their mum and dad and a cart piled with tools, wood, string and stuff. They make a shutter and a door, and put down old carpet and hay bales for seats. As evening draws in, their dad talks about steam trains. Suddenly, a gust of windblows open the shutter. Lightning flashes and Sarah runs out in the rain, waving her red hankerchief. James watches as the last train appears. Sara and James wave at the driver and he waves back. That night, in bed, Sarah and James lie awake, excited, listening for trains and whispering in the dark. Kim Lewis's previous books include "The Shepherd Boy" (shortlisted for the 1991 Kate Greenaway Medal), "Emma's Lamb", "Floss" and "First Snow".
