This book is intended to help undergraduate students to understand the basic ideas and methods used for the modulation of signals in communication systems. The core of the material is in three broad areas of modulation - analogue, keying and digital. An explanation of the basic ideas of communication theory is followed by sections on the definitions and mathematics involved in signal representation.

Part 1 Introduction: communications systems; telecommunications; design considerations. Part 2 Sinusoids: sinusoidal expressions - time domain; frequency domain spectra; rotating phasors; stationary phasors; complex exponential representation. Part 3 Fourier series: Fourier series - single and double sided; spectra - amplitude and phase plots. Part 4 Fourier transforms: Fourier transforms - methods of doing; spectra - amplitude and phase plots. Part 5 Voltage transfer functions. Part 6 Signals and modulation: analogue, digital and binary signals; examples of use; baseband bandwidth calculations; need for and types of modulation.
