Leaving behind the strange world of Wolf Star Rise, Claidi looks forward to a joyful reunion with her beloved Argul. But, to her horror, her return to the Hulta people is met with hostility, mistrust and derision. Argul, they tell her, has left them, shattered by the grief of her betrayal.

Alone again, Claidi determines to follow Argul north. When finally she finds him, he refuses to speak with her, but agrees to take her with him to an unknown destination. Meanwhile, the strange and threatening character of Jelly is in hot pursuit ...

When finally the purpose of their journey is revealed, so too is Claidi's true identity. And so she must confront the past, and find a way to secure her future with Argul.
