Gabriel Fitzmaurice was born in 1952 in the village of Moyvane, Co. Kerry, where he still lives. He has taught in the local national school, where he is now principal teacher, since 1975. He is the author of more than thirty books, including collections of poetry in English and in Irish, a volume of essays, and collections of songs and ballads. He frequently broadcasts on radio and television on education and the arts. His new book of poetry, The Boghole Boys, will be published by Mercier Press in April 2005.
